Goth vs Scene vs Emo hilariousness.?

Ok, so I was goofing about on YouTube, looking at makeup tutorials, since I've picked up a lot of cute tips. Anyway, I see this Scene/emo makeup thing, so I look at it, and basically it's a girl with a long black mullet applying black eyeshadow while, strangely, listening to techno music from MY youth (I'm in my 30's). But all of the comments were like, "There is no scene/emo makeup. Either it's scene, or it's emo!" Or "That's goth! Not emo!". And then I saw all these links to more emo/scene/goth hair and makeup tips, etc, and the debate just rages and rages on, but to me, and I would hazard, to anyone else, they all look totally alike. It seems really silly to me that there seems to be all this confusion and finger pointing about labels, when who wants to be labeled anyway? Thoughts, anyone?
