Wrote a children's book?
I wrote a children's book for a cl I am taking on Language Arts in elementary school, and need the opinion of an aboriginal person. My book addressed all the provinces in Canada and just kind of talked about things that Canada are well known for. so for example maple syrup, fishing, prairies etc. so on one of my pages i drew first nations people outside around a campfire with their cultural clothes (like with the feathers and colourful etc.) and there were two t.p.s. Now, here I am thinking that natives are very proud of their heritage, they love wearing their ceremonial clothing, and demonstrating what their culture is all about...and i have seen doentaries etc, and they still do have things like camp fire ceremonies and t.p.s for special things. Anyway, my professor said this page of my book was very inappropriate and offensive and is too stereotypical of the way we portray natives. so i want to know, are there any aboriginals who would be offended by this page in my book?
