Can I take Zithromax if I am allergic to Cipro?

I had a very severe reaction to Cipro, and have become very anxious about taking any new anti-biotics of course. I was prescribed zithromax, but I am having a hard time working up the nerve to take it. I'm hoping that zithromax can't have a reaction like cipro did, or is at least less likely to cause one of the severity of Cipro.
