How to get rid of a smell?

I bought a scarf that smelled nice when I bought it, but after it was washed it began to reek! I gave it 5 days to air-out, then sprayed it with Febreze- but nothing helped. It is hanging in my room, but you can smell it on the whole 1st floor of the house. How can I get rid of this awful smell?
