Is there a point of starting dating now , at the end of high school?

that guy and I always had somethings for each othe through out high shool. we tried to date last year but it didnt work out. every time we try to move on it ( with other people) does not work and we fall for each other again. now we seniors. grad is in 2 weeks, and i dont know what to do. should we tried before we go away in college or let it as a friendship? we going to different colleges. ( 2 colleges very distant from each other). i don't want to loose touch with him because he is like a best friend, someone i grow up with through out the years of high school and he feels the same way.
